Normalized Tenacity and Normalized Toughness of Graphs

In this paper, we introduce the novel parameters indicating Normalized Tenacity ($T_N$) and Normalized Toughness ($t_N$) by a modification on existing Tenacity and Toughness parameters.  Using these new parameters enables the graphs with different orders be comparable with each other regarding their vulnerabilities. These parameters are reviewed and discussed for some special graphs as well.

Comparing Identification of Artificial and Natural Vowels

In this study, we investigate how listeners classify non-native vowels, comparing classification of synthetically produced stimuli to that of natural stimuli. A forced choice identification task reveals that synthetic vowels are labeled differently from natural vowels and take more processing time. Participants are also less concordant in labeling synthetic tokens as compared to natural tokens....

New signal features for robust identification of isolated vowels

Current signal processing techniques do not match the astonishing ability of the Human Auditory System in recognizing isolated vowels, particularly in the case of female or child speech. As didactic and clinical interactive applications are needed using sound as the main medium of interaction, new signal features must be used that capture important perceptual cues more effectively than popular ...

Formant Bandwidth Affects the Identification of Competing Vowels

Formant bandwidth is known to have little effect on vowel quality. This paper shows that it has a strong effect on mutual masking between vowels. Subjects presented with stimuli consisting of pairs of synthetic vowels were requested to report one or two vowels for each stimulus. Identification rates were calculated independently for both vowels in the stimulus. Vowels had either the same or dif...

Identification of natural whistled vowels by non-whistlers

Whistled speech consists of a phonetic emulation of the sounds produced in spoken voice. This style of speech is the result of the adaptation of the human productive and perceptive intelligence to a language behavior. In the typology of whistled forms of languages, Spanish is among the languages for which the whistled strategy emulates primarily segmental acoustic cues of vowels and consonants....
